Culture Shock Comme Il faut(12) Eli Cohen, Moshe Dayan and Switzerland - 1971\1974

After having my "basic training" at the Sikuney Elef's horrendous student complex, inside Givat Ram's Campus,  I moved to a much more comfortable and private apartment located in the Shmuel Hanavi Quarter, Jerusalem.

While climbing the staircase towards my room I noticed a  plaque with the name ELIE COHEN engraved in one of the student's doors. I stood sitll for a couple of minutes  and was  moved to tears. There couldn't be any Jewish Youngster that didn't know about Israel's masterspy deeds in Syria! I was eager to get acquainted to this person that shared his name with our deceased hero, shake his hand and tell him what an honor... Someone told me this Elie Cohen should be back by noon.

I waited patiently by his door.  This bearded and short moroccan imigrant showed up and asked what was all the fuss about. I started telling him "I was eager to meet him, bla bla bla..." but he cut me short saying " Listen, you Ole Chadash(New immigrant in Israel), learn once and for all: Israeli Males respond either by the name of Elie Cohen, Yacov  Cohen or Moshe Cohen. There's almost no other name in our country....Cut the shit"

One of my mates during my first month in the Army(Frebruary 1974) was called Moshe Dahan.  Dahan is a well known moroccarn surname and down here, in Shekenyia(home) , since 1993, we were blessed by having a Dahan family as our neighbors!  While chating with this Moshe Dahan I encouraged him to check his family name telling him that there must have been a misspelling while registering in the Interior Ministry. "It shoud be Dayan and not Dahan!"  My  utter ignorance and ingenuity was once again afloat. He looked at  me with dismay wondering if all brazilians were assholes like this one...

It didn't take much longer till I approached this young soldier named Suissa(another moroccan surname) and started talking to him in Yidish! Suiça in Portuguese means SWITZERLAND and I didn't have any doubt he was fluent in German or in Yidish...

Culture Shock Comme Il Faut(11)- first New Year's Eve in our Holy Land(1969-1970)

New Year's Eve in Rio de Janeiro-Brazil is a kind of preview for the  comming  Carnival which takes place during the Month of February.

We used to  start celebrating  in the "Hebraica", Rio de Janeiro's top Jewish Club,  followed by an excursion to the Atlantica Avenue, Copacabana's most  notorious postcard, always  in the hope to start the New Year with some unknow love conquest. Our parents were aware we would only show up home in the following year.... They had the usual worries parents are used, nothing to compare with the present time. Rio de Janeiro's violence was almost inexistent compared with today's bedlam.  Americans still didn't invent aids and cholesterol so anyone could eat EVERYTHING and have sexual intercourse with ANY  avaiiable woman.

I arrived our Holy Land in December the 16th and knew  that  this New Year's(Novigod as our russkies call it) would be  different from the former ones. Since I didn't have many acquaintances besides my family in Tel Aviv and was deep into procedures of getting used to my Homeland, I didn't give Novigod the proper attention.

One of my classmates, Danielle, une tres gentile  fille francaise, asked me were I was planning to spend "Silvester's Eve". It took me a split second to translate "Silvester" to New Year's Eve or Reveillon, as we used to call it in Brazil. Since I had  anything  planned she invited me to spend it with friends in Tel Aviv.

Today's Tel Aviv-Jerusalem journey takes abut 45 minutes by bus and there will be soon a train line shortening it to 25 minutes! Back in the last century it would take(being an optimist) about 2 hours,  not to say a thing about the battered  old buses we had to board!

While  having our basic Hebrew Classes(Ulpan) , out teacher  Meira gave us a sermon explaining that "Silvester" wasn't a Jewish Hollyday and we shouldn't take January first off. She warned our class that 'anyone who doesn't show up in January the first will suffer dire consequences besides not being able to attend classes for a whole week!

We were about 20 students and no one said a word in protest .

I went to Tel Aviv as programmed ,  left Danielle's friends at aproximately 0130, took a cab to my relatives and slept(?) about two hours. I boarded the 0500 o'clock bus to Tel Aviv's Old Central Station(today's Suadanese and Erithrean extra territorial ground...) and caught the first "bus" to Jerusalem. To make a long story (a long journey)short  let me tell you I arrived the classroom punctually at 0800 o'clock.

The class was deserted. Our teacher, Meira,  utterly surprised  to see me asked:' what are you suposed to do here?" " I came to attend classes as told  ." Meira opened a broad smile and said pointblank: "Cut the nonsense, go to your student quarters and  have a good  morning\night's sleep!"

Culture Shock Comme Il Faut(10) 1970- sometime during the Summer

Eli Spektor , David Grosworsell and myself became  good friends in no time.  David, as seen before, was the one who  helped me during my first steps in our Holy Land.

The three of us   came from different states in Brazil , had no previous  contact   in our past  existences and met in Israel for the first time . Eli is a paulista, born in South America's Largest Economical Center, São Paulo. David was a gaucho, original from Brazil's Southern  State, Rio Grande do Sul. I am  a carioca, ,as you know, from Rio de Janeiro.

Eli had been engaged to this gorgeous israeli girl, Rikki,  and they were due to get married during that very Summer.

Anyone willing to be wed according to  the Jewish Faith  has to bring to the Rabbinate two witnesses   able to prove  his mother is Jewish.

Since the three of us first met in Israel we had to build a cover story depicting our "ancient" friendship back in Brazil , besides learning about Eli's family (empnhasizing his  mother). You may be aware that Skype , Whatsapp  and derivates were sheer Science Fiction by then . Keeping touch with people  in the 60's was only possible via  snail mail or by phone. With the former you should rely upon Brasil's poor Mail Service and expect an answer after at least 10 days. The latter could be very costly if one was willing to phone  a different city!

Anyway,  since people in Israel were  still convinced Brazil was a Buenos Aires's suburb, we  didn't have any doubts about cheating the rabbis . Eli set a date  with the Rabbinte  and told us to be there  at 0900h sharp, but...

I overslept and forgot completely about the appointment!

That late afternoon Eli and David arrived my room doumbstruck ... David had been  able to tell our cover story in its smaller details and the rabbis looked pleased but when asked if Eli's morher is Jewish he stuttered and answered an "I think so..." They warned Eli and told him he could only resume his marriage procedures after bringing  a witness able to ensure it.

No need to say that I didn't miss the following appointment  and showed up punctually (since then punctuallity has become one of my few virtues ...)in the Rabinate. I performed my duty  properly making Eli and Rikki's marriage possible.

David  and his beloved  Roza Taragano met further on and there is no need to tell that  Eli and myself were the chosen  ones to act as witnesses when they decided to get married. I pestered  David  saying  I'd love to tell  the rabbis "I think  his mother is Jewish" thus closing the circle...

Eli and Rikki  live in Israel and are the proud parents  of 3 boys and a handfull of grandchildren. Roza and David  conceived a girl and a boy who bestowed upon them many grandchildren.  I renewed my contact with Roza after a gap of almost 40 years and  we became family!

In the loving memory of our good friend   David Grosworsel.

Culture Shock Comme Il Faut(9) circa April 1970

I was given   the opportunity to get acquainted  with people from countries I had only heard or read about.  It was the very  first time I got in touch with Poles, Lybians, Cypriots, Russians and a a vast galery of nationalities.

I finally got the chance to practise and improve the many languages I had gathered so far. My  native French got suddenly rescued from the oblivion of 15 years, Belgian accent included! Indeed a miracle. But, as told before, Yidish was the Highlight.

Since Mrs. Mika Geva(The Ulpan Principal) was convinced that Brazil and Buenos Aires were the same(the pox on her!) I had my Hebrew classes among Argentinians. I  had never heard Spanish before but I was able to understand 99% of it. I would talk to them  in  Portuguese but they could hardly understand a word. I decided  to switch to English but it was   of no help.  I had no choice but  learn Cervante's mother tongue as fast as possible . As a rule, brazilians are able to learn Spanish very fast but the opposite is pretty difficult.  Later , while resuming my studies at The Music Academy of Jerusalem, I had  Alfredo Jose Berliner(El Negro) as a room-mate. He was the one who introduced me to Argentinian culture, slang and music embodied by   Los Fronterizos, Los Chalchaleros, Mercedes Sosa, Les Luthiers and many other giants.

Yidish became  in no time my entrance ticket to our  closed  Ulpan's Polish Community. Many  of them spoke it and they were amazed to witness a Brazilian  who had full  command of "Mamelushn". Eugen Yossef Pilarsky(Genek) or " Pilsudsky" as I nicknamed him later, was utterly shocked and called everyone to watch and listen to a "Brazilianer Schwartze(Negro)" speaking Yidish. Let me remind you that  I still had my Copacabana suntan. They were also amazed to learn that, since I am from Polish Ancestry,  my Yidish has plenty of Polish words and idioms.

It was than that I realized that talking to someone in his Native Tongue shatters barriers and bias. I have been using this indispensable asset since then:

Many years later(1980s), while in charge of Kibutz Adamit's Orange Groves, I had to get periodical reports from our packing house. You may be aware that in this era  nothing was computerized . Margalit, this  very simpathetic yemenite lady, was the one that woud update me about the sales and prices of our ongoing harvest. She was very gentle and would ever  take the pains to help me answering my ignorant and pestering  questions.

Her boss, Zvi, an elder romanian with grumpy looks,  was someone  I made my utmost not to approach . He would hardly greet anyone and I would comply with his "manners"  walking very fast and passing him  by on my way to Margalit's desk.

One sunny winter day I got no  choice but having to ask him some questions  Margalit wasn't able to answer. I came close to his desk, stood  silent  and waited for my cue.  He seemed to ignore my presence and kept his gold-rimmed spectacles deep inside his papers. I could have still been there  till this very day... Looks like he felt someone had just put some strange statue besides his desk but it didn't bother him  untill..."the statue" began to talk and  asked in the most polite way I wa able to manage: "Good Morning Zvi. Could you spare some of your time and bestow upon me some answers? "  He fired  pointblank  an "I've got no time. Don't disturb !" without even bothering to give  me a glance.

The informations needed were urgent and I knew I had to find a way to get them whatever the cost. This  was the one moment  I got some of these once in a lifetime divine  inspirations!  I got rid of  my ashkenazy demeanour and using the most powerfull baritone voice  i could  muster ...  SCOLDED him in Yidish: " How come a Jew doesn't help another Jew! Is this why I came to Eretz isruel? A shame on you!!"

It was then that THE MIRACLE took place. He lifted his head dumbfound, looked straight a me, opened the widest smile I had seen so far  and stuttered in Hebrew:"Do you speak Yidish?"  I answered in Yidish and begged him not to speak the "Holy Language" but to proceed in Yidish!.

No use to say I was given all the answers needed + the bonus of an everlasting friendship.

Money makes the world...

So far President Trump has been behaving in a very strange way: he keeps his electoral promises by the book, contradicting worldwide politician's usual behaviour. Looks like his electoral slogan "Let's make America Great Again" is becoming a reality. Things changed radically  since our very simpathetic , educated and diplomatic Hussein Obama left the White House. America is no more World's laughing stock.

US foes became utterly shocked and  now they think twice before trying to do something amiss. They know that today's WH tenant is unpredictable.

So far so good, but...

Saturday's joint attack against syrian chemical facilities appears to be a very very very strange one.

Trump's detractors\oponents\haters have been preaching before and during his FIRST term about a suposed collusion with the russkys related to his stupend victory  in the polls. Following  argentinian poet Jose Hernandez  "El Diablo sabe por Diablo pero mas sabe por viejo"(The Devil knows a lot because he is the Devil but his ultimate wisdom is due to his Old Age)  I consider  myself an unbeliever in what concerns biased media. The only credible thing ever published is the date.

US, UK and France STRANGE  attack against Butcher Bashar made me believe that there was indeed a collusion between President Trump and Presidenta Putina  concerning this operation. Both of them are very pragmatic folks. Trump is a ruthless businessman. Putin is a ruthless KGB agent. Things should work between the two of them.

How come US told Russia in advance what were going to be the MEAGRE sites targeted?

How come US told Russia WHEN  the attack was going to take place?

How come Russia didn't fire a single missile against the attackers' ones?

How come Bashar was given time to redisplay his chemical arsenal within russian(safe) bases?

How come  that in the immediate aftermath of the attack Russia proclaimed that " we are sending brand new equipmente to our syrian allies"?

Money, money, money( Joel Grey "Cabaret- 1969)

Good old Rio de Janeiro!

Outrageous but a good one!!

Dolly Parton and Queen Elizabeth went to the Pearly Gates on the same day.

They both met with an angel to find out if they would be admitted to Heaven
The angel said: "Unfortunately, there's only one space in Heaven today so I must decide which one of you will be admitted."

The angel asked Dolly if there was some particular reason why she should go to Heaven.
Dolly took off her top and said: "Look at these, they're the most perfect breasts God ever created and I'm sure it will please God to be able to see them every day, for eternity."

The angel thanked Dolly, and asked Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the same question.
The Queen walked over to a toilet, pulled the lever and flushed it without saying a word.
The Angel immediately said: "OK, your Majesty, you may go into Heaven."

Dolly was outraged and asked, "What was that all about?  I showed you two of God's own perfect creations and you turned me down.  She simply flushed a commode and she got admitted to Heaven!
Would you explain that to me?

"Sorry, Dolly," said the Angel, "but even in Heaven, a royal flush beats a pair - no matter how big they are.

United Kingdom: islamization at Full Speed(Judith Bergman)

.

  •

The UK is accelerating its Islamization at an ever-increasing speed. The desire of the British establishment to submit to Islam appears to be overwhelming.

In a recent report, the Henry Jackson society exposed how the UK used taxpayer funds to support Islamist charities working against British society to the tune of more than six million pounds in 2017 alone. According to the report, "As the case studies in this report are illustrative rather than comprehensive, it is likely that this sum represents only the tip of the iceberg". The report concludes, "Until more comprehensive action is taken, a network of Islamist extremists operating in the UK will continue to use charities and taxpayer money to fund the spread of divisive, illiberal and intolerant views within our communities".

Among the charities detailed in the report, are several Islamic charities involved in dawa [outreach, proselytization], such as the Islamic Education and Research Academy (iERA), as well as several charities connected to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, such as the Muslim Charities Forum (MCF) and Islamic Relief.

Deploying taxpayer money to support Islamic charities is not the only way in which the UK embraces Islamization.

St. Stephen's Primary School in Newham, London, was recently forced to change its ban on hijabs for girls under the age of eight, even though, in Islam, girls are not obliged to cover themselves before they reach puberty.

This reversal happened after a massive coordinated backlash by Islamic organizations, such as the Muslim Council of Britain -- which the UK government believes to be linked to the Muslim Brotherhood -- and MEND. The campaign against the ban included a petition, signed by more than 19,000 people as well as local councilors. Ten Newham councilors protested that, "To attack an article of faith and clothing in this manner is an outrage and is simply wrong. The argument against allowing school children of whatever age, to wear a hijab actually goes against our fundamental values as a progressive, tolerant and inclusive society. We therefore call upon the school to overturn this decision immediately..." During the coordinated campaign against the hijab ban at the school, teachers were subjected to bullying and abuse, and the head teacher responsible for introducing the ban was compared to Hitler.

The school's chair of governors, Arif Qawi, who had written in a social media post that he was trying to "limit the Islamisation process, and turn these beautiful children into modern, British citizens", also had to resign. Miqdaad Versi, the assistant secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said his organization welcomed Qawi's resignation, because of his "appalling" statements in support of the ban. "Yet serious questions remain unanswered as to the school leadership's attitude towards Muslims, which are potentially discriminatory...We hope that future decisions are made carefully and with full consultation with local communities." Versi said.

This is how Islamization occurs and is made permanent: Other schools will think carefully of the risks before they even attempt to "limit the Islamization process". According to the former head of the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Ofsted), Sir Michael Wilshaw, the lack of a national policy on wearing hijabs in schools is due to political correctness, which leaves teachers "alone, isolated and vulnerable".

"There's something like 150 schools... which in short make it compulsory for youngsters to wear a hijab -- so what's happening about those schools?", Sir Michael asked recently , "The country has enormously changed. When heads want to change things, they have now to take into account deep-seated and sincere feeling of communities, some of whom who have conservative views".

The British state evidently cares less about Islamization -- and the oppression of little girls -- than about political correctness.

The clerical establishment is also pressing Britons to accept and accommodate the ongoing Islamization more readily. Archbishop Welby cautiously admitted in November 2016 that dealing with the religiously motivated violence in Europe "requires a move away from the argument that has become increasingly popular, which is to say that ISIS is 'nothing to do with Islam'... Until religious leaders stand up and take responsibility for the actions of those who do things in the name of their religion, we will see no resolution."

Since then, however, he appears dutifully to have returned to the submissive fold and in February 2018, he was once more preaching the politically correct gospel of "Welcoming strangers to our country and integrating them into our culture... We must be generous and allow ourselves to change with the newcomers and create a deeper, richer way of life". One year ago, in February 2017, Welby suggested that Brexit and the election of Trump were both "in the fascist tradition".

Britain's security establishment also seems longing to submit to Islam. Scotland Yard recently warned that hate crimes ("Islamophobia", in other words, as no other hate crime is taken as seriously) are "hugely underreported". Chief Superintendent Dave Stringer, Scotland Yard's head of community engagement said: "The Met has seen a steady increase in the reporting of all hate crime, particularly racist and religious hate crime. Despite this rise, hate crime is hugely underreported and no one should suffer in silence."

It is virtually impossible for "Islamophobia" to be "underreported" in London. The UK is nothing, if not clinically obsessed with "Islamophobia". In 2016, London mayor Sadiq Khan's Office for Policing and Crime announced it was spending £1.7 million of taxpayer money policing speech online. Less than six months ago, London police teamed up with Transport for London authorities to encourage people to report hate crimes during "National Hate Crime Awareness Week", which ran from October 14-21. The events were mainly targeted at Muslims, with officers visiting the East London Mosque to encourage reporting hate crimes. British police have even been taking lessons about Islam and "Islamophobia" from radical Islamist groups such as Mend. One of the most active Mend figures, Azad Ali, has said that he has "love" for Anwar Al-Awlaki, an influential US-born Islamic terrorist, who was killed by a US drone strike in Yemen in 2011.

Meantime, while the police obsess over "Islamophobia", regular crime in London is exploding. The latest statistics from the London Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime show that in the past year, homicides have increased 27.1%, knife crimes have increased 31.3%, and there were 2,551 incidents of gun crime, representing a rise of 16.3%. Police recorded 7,613 rapes in the 12 months through January 2018 compared with 6,392 for the previous year, a rise of almost 20%. As reported by the Evening Standard, the figures also show an 8% increase in other sexual offences in the past year, bringing the total number of reported rapes and sexual assaults in London to almost 20,000. Campaigners have suggested the real figure could be "significantly higher" once unreported attacks are taken into account. British police, meanwhile, say they are at a loss to explain what is causing the rise in rapes.

The Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Sir Craig Mackey was recently asked if he had any idea what was behind the surge. His answer: "No, is the honest answer... there is something going on with sexual offending in London that we don't fully understand, the causes of it. We see the end of it, [but] we don't understand the causes."

Meanwhile, 65,000 cases of child sex abuse reached a record high in 2017, or 177 every day: up 15% from 2016.

In Rotherham alone, after 16 years of dismissing the problem, the number of child abuse cases rose to 1,510. The National Crime Agency (NCA) inquiry, "the biggest of its kind in the UK, has identified 110 suspects, of whom 80% are of Pakistani heritage", officers said.

In its seeming eagerness to submit to Islam, the security establishment even appears to be willing to compare people responding to Islamization and Islamic terrorism with the Islamic terrorists themselves. In a recent lecture, one of the UK's top counterterrorism officials, Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, outgoing head of counter-terrorism policing, compared Tommy Robinson, an anti-Islamist activist, often described as "far-right," to Anjem Choudary, a radical terrorist-linked Islamist cleric who has advocated sharia in the UK and is now serving a prison sentence for urging support for ISIS.

Pictured: Anjem Choudary, a radical terrorist-linked Islamist cleric who has advocated sharia in the UK and is now serving a prison sentence for urging support for ISIS. (Photo by Oli Scarff/Getty Images)

"Robinson also became a regular fixture in our media, giving him the platform to attack the whole religion of Islam by conflating acts of terrorism with the faith, often citing spurious claims, which inevitably stirred up tensions" Rowe said, "Each side feeds into each other's extremist rhetoric with the common goal of increasing tensions and divisions in communities".

Rowe also said, "The right-wing threat was not previously organized. Every now and then there's been an individual motivated by that rhetoric who has committed a terrorist act, but we've not had an organized right-wing threat like we do now".

Perhaps Rowley might stop to consider why there is now an organized right-wing threat. The British establishment -- people such as Rowley -- have categorically embraced the "Islam is peace" narrative. The establishment has even let itself and its police be lectured by radical Islamist organizations such as Mend on what Islam is -- and has doggedly refused to listen to any dissident voices. Large parts of the British population, therefore, have nowhere to turn with their frustrations at the rapid Islamization of British society, apart from anti-establishment or far-right organizations. No other organizations appear willing to have an open discussion about the ongoing Islamization. Rowley and other establishment figures, especially political ones, continue to evade responsibility for this upheaval -- a situation that seems bound to continue, unless or until the British establishment -- political, security, educational, clerical and cultural -- begins to address, openly and honestly, the rapidly increasing speed of Islamization into British society.

Unfortunately, that enquiry appears unlikely to happen.

Today's quote(14-03-2018)

"One man with conviction will overwhelm a hundred who have only opinions"

Culture Shock Comme Il faut(8) circa January 1970

My room mate, Pavel(Haim) Lukacs  ,was very friendly and had the care to bref me extensively about our quarters and its variegated tenants.

It was my first  contact with people comming from Poland, Russia, Cyprus, Lybia, Georgia and   Earth's four corners. The desire to settle in our ancestral Homeland was our common denominator notwithstanding each of us had a different plan, a different dream.

Eugene Yossef Pilarsky(Genek), a blue eyed Polish lad was startled to meet a Brazilian Schwartze  who spoke fluent Yidish.  Back then I  had abundant black hair and my Copacabana  suntan was still unscathed.  I met his fellow Polish mates, Regina Silber, Adam Koniecny(Kurwietsky as I would nickname him further...) and a handfull of Eastern Europe  boys and girls.  Pavel told me to "mantain distance" from  the Georgian guys  - " they drink a lot and are quite violent" -as we just passed by one of them, MichaelShvili. He stared at me with his red tinged eyes, measured me from the tip of my toes to the the crest of my head without saying a word.  He didn't shave that morning(maybe the mornings before...) and had the looks of these WANTED posters we are acquainted through American Westerns... Indeed frightening.

A couple of days later, while I was shaving in our common shower, the door swung open after being kicked briskly. Michaelshvilli stood on the treshold with his bloodshot eyes X-raying  me. That miserable door was the only way out from that precint.  There wasn't anyone there besides the two of us. I have no idea how come I  didn't tremble or faint. I grasped the Gillete blade with my right hand waiting  for the assault... He walked a couple of steps and in no time  I could feel his alcohol saturated breath on my face. Then, I heard   the hoarsest voice I would  ever hear in my professional life:"WERE ARE YOU FROM?"

It is amazing how fast I recovered from this acoustic shock , not to say this dragonlike breath. I collected myself and answered with the firmest voice I managed to extract from my vocal cords: "Brazil"

He opened the widest smile I had ever seen, tapped my shoulder and exclaimed: "Pele', Rivelino, Jairzinho, Tostao!! You're brazilian, you're my friend! If you have any problem just ask for Jirky(his Georgian nickname)!

He would greet me with a smile  and a wink whenever we met . My acquaintances, Pavel included, were  baffled how come Jirky has become so friendly with me. No need to say that a couple of months later, when Pele', Rivelino, Tostao, Jairzinho, Everaldo, Clodoaldo, Felix, Carlos Alberto  and fellow footballers  amassed Brazil's 3rd World cup, Jirky became tenfold effusive and friendly.

Hatouka, the wonder dog , and Tomer, Zyiad's ultimate grandson!

Nothing New under the sun(Zyiad's conclusions following MEMRI's report bellow)

Turkey's Death Wish in regard of the State of Israel shouldn't be a surprise for folks   aware of its policiy  during the last years.

Turkey's "Peace Flotillas", Turkey's support for Hamas and variagated "freedom fighters", Turkey's  close filiation with the Islamic Brotherhood(ISIS mild version...), Israel constantly being bashed by  its Sultan, etc, etc.

People down here often  ask why Israel doesn't cut its ties with this anti Semite country once and for all. My answer is simple: " One gotta have a close eye on its enemy. One gotta keep him  close enough to smash him in case of need" .

When reading the insight MEMRI report bellow it is possible to understand why the USA have been bestowing upon Israel its annual generous contribution for its Defence Needs. Israel is the  Last Bastion between  THE WEST(the Crusaders) and  ISLAM(the faithfull ones).

I wrote long ago(December 2014) in MENORAH BRASIL magazine:

"Let us assume that Israel doesn't exist between Europe and 380 million Moslems. What is left to protect Europe against 380  million blood thirsty  Moslems? The answer is "about 12 million greeks and 1 million cipriots." These 2 countries do not have Israel's military power and experience. Cyprus would be  "incorporated"  to Egypt  together with its opulent gas basin  before the first morning prayer... The USA would have an annual expenditure tenfold onerous than it has with Israel's needs ,trying to safeguard Greece's poor defence forces. Not to say that the USA would have to send  American Soldiers to accomplish this herculean task."

I cannot recall the name of the chinese  savant that said " when a gun appears in the first act it will fire in the last".

It is patent that the bulding tension between Israel and its foes has reached a peak that will bring us eventualy  to an armed conflict.

Zyiad's sleep keeps being serene and confortable . His  tent is not rocket proof but his tiny country is a super power.

Turkish Newspaper Close To President Erdogan Calls To Form Joint Islamic Army To Fight Israel

On December 12, 2017, ahead of the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul,  the Turkish daily Yeni Şafak, which is close to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his ruling AKP party, published an article  titled "A Call for Urgent Action,"[1] which also appeared on the paper's website under the title “What If an Army of Islam Was Formed against Israel?"[2] The article called on the 57 member states of the OIC to form a joint "Army of Islam" to besiege and attack the state of Israel. It notes that such a joint army will greatly exceed the Israeli army in manpower, equipment and budget, and presents statistics to prove this. It also advocates establishing joint bases for the army's ground, air and naval forces that will arrive from all over the Muslim world to besiege Israel, while noting that Pakistan, as the only nuclear country, has "a special status" among the OIC countries. An interactive map provides information on military forces stationed in various locations and the role they can play in the potential joint Muslim attack on Israel.

"What If An Army Of Islam is formed agains Israel?

Was"If the OIC member states unite and form a joint military force, it will be the largest army in the world. These countries' total population is 1,674,526,931. The number of soldiers in active service in these countries is at least 5,206,100. Their [overall] military defense budget, of $174,728,420, is also worthy of emphasis.

"Half Of Istanbul

"As for Israel, it is significantly inferior. The population of this country, which attempted to occupy Jerusalem while surrounded by Muslim states, is 8,049,314. Note that the population of Istanbul alone exceeds 14 million. The number of soldiers in active service in the [Israeli] occupation forces is 160,000, and [Israel's] defense budget is approximately $15, 600,000,000.

Infographic comparing the OIC countries with the Israel:

"Defense Budget: OIC: $174,728,420; Israel: $15,600,000. Population: OIC: 1,674,526,931; Israel: 8,049,314. Soldiers: OIC: 5,206,100; Israel: 160,000"

"Islamic Countries Will Lay Siege To Israel

"Among the decisions that can be taken at the OIC [summit] is to form a 'Jerusalem Task Group.' In this framework, military steps are likely to be taken. The [Muslim] armies, ranging from Africa to Asia, surpass the Israeli [army in might]. So if an Islamic army is formed, Israel will be under a siege.

"At The First Stage: 250 Thousand Soldiers

"In a possible military operation, the first step is expected to involve 250,000 soldiers, and the establishment of joint land, air and naval bases for use in the short term.

"500 tanks and armored vehicles, 100 war planes, 500 attack helicopters and 50 warships and submarines can be mobilized.

.

"Military Bases Close to Israel Available For Immediate Action

"The war planes that will be dispatched to the region from greater distances will be stationed in airbases [closer to Israel]. Israel will most likely to be besieged by the naval fleets that will be sent to the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

"The Necessary Equipment Exists

"The military capability of the OIC member states is considerable. These armies have the necessary equipment to carry out a military operation on land, sea and air.

"Even Turkey Alone Is Superior [To Israel]

"Turkey will serve as an important headquarters during the operation, due to its land, air and naval infrastructures. The Turkish army, which carried out 'Operation Euphrates Shield' [in Syria in 2017] with great success, is now ranked the world’s seventh strongest army, and the second largest army among the NATO powers. Turkey has approximately 4,000 tanks and 1,000 war planes and other aircraft. Its navy made significant progress during the last years, with 194 vessels at its disposal.

"As the only country which possesses nuclear weapons, Pakistan has an important status among the 57 Muslim [OIC] countries...

"Those who believe that they are the owners of Jerusalem today will not find a single tree to hide behind tomorrow"

"Asia's Military Defiance

"In a statement, Malaysian Defense Minister [Hishammuddin] Hussein described Trump’s recognition [of Jerusalem as Israel's capital] as a blow to Muslims, and added: 'The Malaysian armed forces are ready to fulfill their duty regarding Jerusalem.'

"Turkey Is Forming Alliances

"In recent years, Turkey has launched a series of collaborations with [OIC] member states. The joint military drill with our Iraqi neighbors conveyed a clear message to the terrorists, and Turkey is [also] engaging in new collaborations with Qatar, Somalia and other Gulf and African countries. In this context it should be underlined that Turkey is taking steps to realize the model of the 'Army of Islam,' forging alliances with many Muslim countries to increase its military mobility."

Quote of the day(8\03\2018)

"Democracy made idiots aware of their numeric supremacy. Once, they used to live their idiotic existence peacefully.  Now,they KNOW  they are in charge."

A love message for BDS lovers...

Here goes a friendly message for the EU, a little bit of Israeli history that I believe is quite appropriate right now after their action to boycott all Israeli businesses, products and services that are located in Judea and Samaria.

You know, the history of boycotting the Jewish people isn't new, but I will not dwell on the distant past, I will take you to April 1, 1933. On that day, the Nazi Party (NSDAP) that had seized control of the German nation, decided to launch a mass boycott of all Jewish businesses, professionals like doctors and dentists, and educated men and women who taught at Germany's universities and colleges. This was the primary and first governmental anti-semitic act of the new government-and what did it achieve?

Well, firstly it brought Albert Einstein to the United States and it laid the ground work for the most massive pre-statehood immigration of Jews into the homeland. In 1935, 61,834 Jews from Germany and Central Europe, fleeing for their lives, made the trek to the former British Mandate and what did they bring with them other than the meager belongings that they were permitted to carry on their persons. Let's see, they brought the talent that would create the now, Israel Philharmonic, the boycott brought dozens of doctors, dentists, lawyers, and university lecturers to what had been, for the most part, a tiny agrarian, socialist economy that had not been able to attract this caliber of person, and it laid the foundations for a burgeoning middle class that would build hundreds of factories, create the groundwork for huge industrial enterprises and give renewal and revival to dozens of established and soon to be established, vibrant communal settlements all over the country.

But why stop there? In 1936, the Arab Higher Committee( the organization of anti-Jewish terrorists of its day) called a general strike all over the mandate that closed shops and factories and ports and impoverished the local Arab community by threatening to murder any Arab that dared to go to work or open his shop or harvest and sell his produce. So, what was the Jewish answer to this boycott? Well, we brought thousands of Greek Jews from Thessaloniki (Salonica) and other Greek ports where the Jews were the dockworkers, the stevedores, the longshoremen, and WE answered the Arab strike with the creation of the port of Tel Aviv, which had no port previously. We built a Jewish owned shipping industry and built what is today the Israel Shipyards. We expanded and built new Jewish owned and operated businesses and our farms grew to take up the slack and maintain the market that the Arab boycott had shuttered.

With the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, the Arab League opened the Office for the Boycott of Israel in Damascus, where it is still located today. The member states of the Arab League  threatened to seize any business and boycott any individual that dared to do invest or build in the Jewish state. They also refrained from opening their markets to Israeli goods and refused our ships docking privileges in their ports. So, what did we do? WE created an Israeli shipping line, the ZIM line, to carry our goods all over the world. WE built the port of Eilat to bypass the Suez Canal and deal with the new nations of Africa and Asia. WE improvised, adapted and overcame by building an economy whose products and services would be demanded by the civilized world and this brought us investment, venture capital and billions in outright donations that has created an economic powerhouse in a nation so small, so lacking in natural resources, that today, Israel's shekel is among the strongest currencies traded anywhere in the world.  International corporations that have brought their major R&D centers here, like Intel, Microsoft and Cisco Systems, where entrepreneurs from all over the world have invested billions of dollars in Israeli companies, as has Warren Buffet, who made his first ever, international investment to the tune of $4 BILLION in an Israeli company in the Western Galillee that makes, among other items, the blades for jet engines and razors. Israel has more businesses listed on NASDAQ than Western Europe, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea combined and more start ups than America's Silicon Valley which is represented in EVERY Israeli city. Personally, I don't believe that Kirk Douglas, Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe or the Disney Corporation were really upset that their films could not be shown in Beirut, Damascus, Ammann or Cairo. Even, "Cleopatra," Elizabeth Taylor, z"l, could  not have that film  exhibited in the Arab world cause she was a Jew.

But, let's get to the present, shall we? Over 25000 "Palestinian" Arabs work in Judea and Samaria all of them receive the same pay as their Israeli equivalents in the same industry, they all get National Insurance benefits, health care and, most importantly, they get paid regularly. I know this for a fact as I see the Arabs who work for my town, line up at the local branch of Bank Le'umi and collect their wages on the 5th of every month. These workers support their families and the EU is threatening the livelihoods of the very folks it wants to grant independence too? How can they ever be independent if by your boycott you force the places where they work  to re-locate within the "Green Line"?  These businesses will be forced to hire foreign workers and Israeli citizens! Wow! Just like the Nazis who forced the closing of Jewish businesses  and boycotted of the Jews of Germany in 1935, you too, EU, might be doing this country a tremendous favor by decreasing our unemployment level among Israeli Arabs, Haredi Jews, and, heavens to Betsy, de-mobilized Israeli soldiers who need part time work while they go to university!!! Who said "Every knock is a boost!"

Will your anti-Semitic boycott make us leave our land? Will this act of pernicious Jew hatred weaken our resolve? History teaches us otherwise. More Jews will come to Yehudah and Shomron, build new factories and new farms and new communities. Israeli exports are ever increasing, if not to the creeping decrepitude that is so obvious in a dying, Islamicized Europe, devoid of courage and full of cowardice and prejudice, but to the growing economic powerhouses of India, China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea-Israel's economic future and success is in the East, in the Pacific Rim and all over a sleeping giant continent called Africa.

Your boycotts have strengthened us, your hatred has united us and your utter contempt for truth and your obeisance to hypocrisy and cowardice has made you contemptible and beyond rescue.

And, to top it all off (to use a gas station phrase) maybe Moses made the correct turn after all, for we have found natural gas deposits that are in the trillions of cubic meters, and, dare I say the word, OIL! Sure, it's shale, but with all your technological universities and research centers being urged to cut their ties with us, I guess we'll just have to put our Jewish heads together and solve the problem ourselves, in typical Israeli fashion-after all, you have always forced us to improvise, adapt and overcome. We have succeeded swimmingly and despite your BDS demonstrations, anti-Semitic rhetoric and throwing Israeli goods off of supermarket shelves, our GDP increases year after year. By the way, Israel is issuing another 20,000 work permits to Arab residents of Judea and Samaria. I guess that wouldn't happen if youor nazi-like boycott was working. Heavens to mergetroyd they are also building Israeli housing on the ,dare I say it, "West Bank?" So with a lot of tongue in cheek, thanks for the help. Oh, one more thing before I forget-did you know that your BDS icon, Barghouti, got his degrees at Tel Aviv University????

Last but not least: You may not be aware that Judea is the place Jews are bound to dwell. Arabia is the place Arabs should dwell.

Now you are.

Anyone who belongs to the Jewish Faith knows the strict rules concerning  meat and dairy food.

I was aware of the religious prohibiton to mix them in the same meal  but I hadn't the faintest idea about the existence of separate  meat and dairy restaurants in our Homeland. I'm talking about the year of 1970  when McDonalds and similars didn't exist.  As a matter of fact, in order to eat a decent pizza one should go to the Old City of Jerusalem. You wouldn' t find it  anywhere else! The same if you wanted to savour a good french baguette. The only hamburger available was sold in "Whimpy" parlours scattered  within the city. It was a poor looking piece of meet that would lose 3\4 of its size  when fried...

I asked the vendor for a Cheesburger. He asked me "what is it?"

"An Hamburger with cheese on top of it" I said

"It is forbiden"

"It's OK with me" I said.

He looked at me while  trying to figure out from wich planet did I arrive...

תוצאת תמונה עבור ‪waiter‬‏During my first days in Homeland I made my best to follow my father's briefing.  I kept wearing the same suit and tie(I didn't have an extra one...)"to make a good first impression" wherever I went.

I had many errands to accomplish in The Hebrew University before starting Ulpan classes and Music Academy.  Time elapsed fast and since I became very hungry, I went to the first cafeteria around , sat down and waited to be served.

I noticed there were many waiters walking around with trays  full of succulent meals.

I snapped my fingers and called "Waiter! Waiter" and to my dismay no one was ready to come and serve this "elegant" lad about to starve...

My students and acquaintances know PATIENCE  is one of my few virtues, but after not being served for  some fifteen minutes I decided to look for the  manager and tell him a couple of things!I turned back, started looking for someone in charge and  I saw IT!

I  had taken a seat with my back facing dozens of students with trays ,  helping themselves  in a counter kibutz like and paying for their lunch. This marvell is called SELF SERVICE in the civilized world but it still didn't exist in Rio de Janeiro.

The young students having  lunch seemed to be indulgent with this brazilian hillbilly and  besides some quizzical  glances I didn't get any nasty remarks...

This was the very  moment I understood exactly how Tarzan felt when he  arrived New York for the first time.

I was told by my beloved and late cousin Manuel before exiting Rio de Janeiro  that "First thing  in Israel you have to taste Falafel!"  I didn"t have any  idea what he was talkiing about and he didn't give me any clue about this "falafel" thing.  He just said  "this is Israel's National Gourmet Delicatesse. You'll love it!"  Since he wouldn't reveal anything besides these encrypted statements I became eager to get some of this Falafel Stuff.

I had been hardly one day in my Ulpan classes when this American classmate invited  me to join her for lunch. I  promptly accepted and suggested we have some Falafel.  She said she knew a very good falafel place.  I couldn't hide my excitment prior to the disclosure of "Israel's National Gourmet Delicatesse"!

A 5 minutes walk took us to one of these old fashioned kioskes,  remnant of the British Mandate of Palestine. The vendor was eating  some kind of paste(Hummous) with the help of Pita Bread.   Pita Bread In these days used to be almost two times bigger than today's.

I was sure he would wash his hands before serving us but ...Vanna Speranza! Instead he just licked his fingers and cleaned them  with some cloth I wouldn't use to clean my car...

I have been told by my mom always to take notice of someones fingernails. She used to say  they are people's ID. This individual had the fingernails of a coal  mine worker.  Pitchblack.(Allah zoll uns hitn!!)

He picked up a Pita Bread from the stack, opened it, INSERTED his right hand inside and widened it with a fast  motion of his fingers.  I stood there bewildered watching the ondulating Pita  Bread.  Before long it was stuffed with salad, little balls(the so called falafel) and tahini sauce.

He offered me and said "Take(קח)!! I didn't pick it . I was petrified. My classmate picked it and  ate with sheer gusto.

Our hero repeated the operation and in no time he stuck another Manat Falafel(Falafel Portion)in front of my spellbound face. "Take!" I didn't move. "Take, Rabak!" I couldn't make a  movement and my eyes kept gazing into his chef d'oeuvre.

I came back to my wits in a moment of lucidity and shouted with full lungs:"Va' toma' no cu,caralho!!! Va' pra Puta que Pariu!!", turned my back to him and ran away panickstricken.

It took to me a couple of years till I had the guts to eat my first Falafel.  I loved it and now I have the  authority to say that it is from the utmost importance the vendor's hands aren't clean while preparing it.  This is the main source of Falafel's exquisite taste...

I was sent to an advanced class in order to resume my Hebrew Course after having a brief interview with Mrs. Mika Geva, the Principal of Ulpan Terra Santa,

Mika:"Are you the youngster who has just arrived from Brazil?"

Zyiad:"Yes"

Mika:" Buenos Aires, isn't it?"

I wanted to strangle her on the spot but I decided not to do so. Spending many  years behind bars wouldn't be the appropriate way to start  my new life as an israeli...

Mika:" I've been told you learned Hebrew back home"

Zyiad:"Yes"

Mika: "I'll send you to the advanced class. OK?"

Zyiad;"Yes"

After spending a week in the class I surrendered and asked to move to a lower level. My brazilian friend, David Gosworsell, tried to help me but with no positive results.  Once in a while our teacher would turn to me and ask"Barur(Understood)?"

I asked David "Why on the hell she keeps calling me "Barur? Doesn't she know my real name"?!?

Culture Shock Comme Il Faut(3) circa December 1969's last two weeks

It took me  some time to understand that  you DO NOT HAVE  to wear a suit,a tie  a vest and polished black shoes when travelling by air.  This was my exact fancy dressing while travelling to Israel in 1969.  " You gotta look like a Mentsch", according to my Papa...

This was  my"disguise" during my first days in Jerusalem. "You gotta look respectable and there is nothing like a suit to forward a good first impression"  (Papa strikes again...)

The sight of a 19 years old lad with the looks of a dandy was quite bizarre. I tried to act "bussiness as usual" and really gave a very good and strange first impression...

Once in our Jewish Homeland I had no doubts  EVERYONE spoke fluent Yidish. I was aware of the many  ethnicities that formed de Jewish People but was sure that any Yemenite, Marrocan, Russian, etc Jew had a perfect command of the Jewish Mother Tongue. This certainty became stronger after having a chat  in Yidish with aunty Haiale's yemenite neighbor(he learned it as  a kid while spending years on Haiale's lap). By the way, former American Chief of Staff and Secretary of State Collin Powell learned it the same way. Louis Armstrong, the musical icon, too!

It didn't take me  long to go back to reality. Yidish won't die but it it isn't Israel's main language. Russian is today's Israel top language...

It was 2230 sharp when my right foot touched israeli soil for the first time.

It was freezing outside. Cold as I had never experienced before. Imagine that  24 hours earlier I was swimming in Copacaban Beach and updating my suntan under a heat of 41 C!

My dedicated parents took the pains to buy me appropriate winter outfit but I learned soon that "appropriate outfit" isn't enough.  One gotta have his mind and body fit for  these low temperatures.

I had no problems communicatin thanks to the Hebrew my beloved teachers Berta, Dora, Arieh and Sarah  taught me during my 10 years in  Ginasio Hebrew Brasileiro Max Nordau. I  was't accquainted with Modern Hebrew and I could notice people's amused faces while using my "biblical" Hebrew.

I was taken to Hotel Monopol at Tel Aviv's seashore . The concierge, a romanian immigrant, spoke fluent Yidish making things easier for me(This is one of the 3 languages we spoke at home). He took me to a small room with almost no furniture besides two big beds and 2 chairs between them.

He wished me "a guite nacht" and said pointblank before leaving: "Don't lock the door.  A couple maybe comming here to spend the night..."

I went to the window plunged in deep taughts and bewildered. I noticed  bellow  my room  3 young ladies making "trotoir" and earning their nightly wages.

"Kurves! Puta que pariu! Yidishe Kurves in Eretz isruel"!!

It was the night of December 16th 1969. My first night in Homeland.

It has been a long time since I considered writing a book.

Friends, family and a variety of people that follou my monthly articles in Menorah Brazil   Magazine and cyberspace have been telling me to do so but I keep reluctant 'cos you need 2 main assets to do so: Time and Peace of Mind.  I've got Peace of Mind in quantities that would have made me rich if worth money, but time  is a different issue. Maybe this humble blog will be the booster to do so.  Time will disclose it.

I keep working  notwithstanding I have already been bestowed upon a Senior Card which entitles me retirement and a cheaper ticket in the movies ... After being asked by my 3 bosses(3 different  work places ) if I'm considering retirement I answered that I plan to go on working till they  either kick me off or I feel that I have lost the joy of it.

Next year, I'll be celebrating my FIRST 50 years in our Holy Land and it is about time I should start writing about some of my first experiences in  Homeland. I'm pretty sure that most of you who have experienced a changing of countries may identify yourselves with some of my(TRUE!) tales.

Israeli Media\ Academy\ Leftist Intelectuals ignore or pretend to ignore is that common citizens are tenfold smarter than one can suppose.

Common Israeli Citizens have been witnessing  for ages  a Human Hunt without precedent in our Western World . There is no doubt our media and worshipers will continue to hunt Mr Netaniahu for generations to come.

Netaniahu is dwefinitely not my cup of tea.  His hedonism is only surpassed by our late President, Shimon Peres.  No one talked\commented against Peres's hedonism. He belonged to the right side .
